With Ash Wednesday we enter into a profound journey of repentance, renewal, and reconciliation with God. The prophet Joel calls the people to return to the Lord with all their hearts: through fasting, weeping, and mourning; as signs of sincere conversion. God desires our hearts above all, promising mercy and restoration when we turn to him with humility. The call is urgent: “Now is the time of God’s favor.” St. Paul echoes this urgency, reminding us that we are ambassadors for Christ, entrusted with the message of reconciliation. The present moment is sacred; the invitation to embrace God’s grace cannot be postponed. We are called to respond with generosity, courage, and faith, allowing God’s love to transform our lives and the lives of those around us. Prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are not for public approval but for authentic communion with God. The ashes we receive are a visible reminder of our mortality, our dependence on God, and our call to holiness.
Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned. Amen.
