Be kind to me, Lord, and I shall live
  • James 1:1-11
  • Psalm 119:67-68,71-72,75-76
  • Mark 8:11-13

Padre Pio was an Italian priest and mystic. Despite extraordinary signs, many doubted him; they suspected his stigmata were fake, demanding medical proof. He was subjected to rigorous investigations. He endured humiliation and isolation for years. In today’s Gospel, Jesus is confronted by the Pharisees, who demand a sign from heaven. But he refuses, knowing that their hearts are hardened, and that true faith does not come from seeking proof. In our own lives, we often struggle with uncertainty, longing for signs or clear answers. Do we seek signs before trusting God, or do we have faith in his presence and guidance? Are we open to seeing God at work in our lives, or do we let scepticism cloud our hearts? Just as Jesus refused to perform signs for those who would not believe, Padre Pio chose not to engage in endless debates with sceptics. Instead, he trusted that true faith comes not from demanding signs, but from surrendering to God.

Abba Father, open my heart to trust in you without demanding signs. Amen.
