Turn to the Lord in your need
  • Deuteronomy 30:10-14
  • Psalm 69:14,17,30-31,33-34,36-37
  • Colossians 1:15-20
  • Luke 10:25-37

The first reading emphasizes the importance of turning to the Lord in times of need. It is a choice that we can make – to obey or not to obey. When we choose to obey God and live according to his ways, we will experience his grace. This was the covenant that God made with the Israelites: that if they obeyed and kept his word, their future would be blessed with abundance and prosperity. That same covenant given to the Israelites many years ago is what we inherit today. I remember a time when I was blessed with a job during an employment crisis. “He is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine” (Eph 3:20) is a promise I hold onto. We are called to live for one another and not for ourselves. Today’s Gospel reading speaks about the Samaritan who forwent his plans for the day to help a stranger. We, too, are called to sacrifice. Jesus said: “Love your neighbor as yourself”. Have we fulfilled this commandment of Jesus?

PRAYER: Abba Father, may I turn to you in times of need believing that you will provide, according to your will. Amen.
