In the midst of the fiery furnace, God was present. The flames do not destroy because God walks with his servants. Azariah’s prayer shows that even when we have nothing to offer, a repentant and trusting heart is enough for God. God does not abandon us in suffering; he enters our trials and turns them into moments of grace and hope. In today’s Gospel, Peter’s question, “How many times must I forgive?”, sounds very human and familiar. We like limits and keeping records, especially when we have been hurt. But Jesus’ answer goes beyond all calculation. Forgiveness in God’s kingdom is not measured; we are recipients of overwhelming mercy. Jesus reminds us that forgiveness is about remembering how deeply we ourselves have been forgiven. When we stand before God, aware of our need for mercy, it becomes harder to withhold it from others. Forgiveness is not a one-time act; it is a daily decision to let God’s mercy flow through us.
Abba Father, help us to forgive others as you forgive us and to show mercy and love to others as you do for us. Amen.
