What is the cost of encouraging others? Encouragement strengthens someone to become confident or hopeful. Is not our strength sapped in the process? Does it not take a great deal of effort to encourage others or even humble ourselves that others might progress? Is there a cost of being the “wind beneath someone’s wings”? Paul and Barnabas had to travel 300 miles from Jerusalem to Antioch – more than a week. Have we considered the cost to the one who is the giver of encouragement? Have we forgotten to thank those who have helped us after we have become victorious? Those who bow, bend, step aside, and put others before themselves are the true givers of help and encouragement. King David wrote this Psalm as he and his faithful fled from King Saul. David too had difficult times of persecution and exile. In the Gospel reading, Jesus uses the word “Friends” three times. Jesus has shown his love for us. Let us love him and love others as he laid down his life for us.
PRAYER: Abba Father, fill us with the fruits and gifts of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
