The Lord is my shepherd
  • 1 Samuel 16:1, 6-7, 10-13
  • Psalm 23:1-6
  • Ephesians 5:8-14
  • John 9:1-41

Today, also known as Laetare Sunday, invites us to rejoice as we continue our Lenten journey of repentance and conversion. The readings center on the theme of sight and challenge us to examine how we see God, others, and ourselves. In the first reading, we see Samuel looking to anoint a new king and, like many of us, he is drawn to outward appearance. Yet God sees beyond the externals. We too should look beyond the surface and allow our hearts to be shaped by God’s values. The Gospel points to more than a physical healing. As the man gains physical sight, he also grows in spiritual awareness. Are we open to God acting in unexpected ways, or do our assumptions and fears keep us blind? Living as children of light means choosing truth when shadows feel safer, and love when judgment comes more easily. Let us ask for the grace to see with God’s eyes, to walk as children of light, and to rejoice in the transforming power of Christ.

Abba Father, lead us with your rod and staff, that we may live as children of light. Amen.
