Many struggle to obey God’s will. We are surrounded by the world and the pleasures it offers, and burdened by the responsibilities we take on. The in-consistencies in our prayer life could be due to prioritizing other things before God. We may find ourselves pulled in different directions, prioritizing tasks, ambitions, or worldly gains over the time we should dedicate to our faith and spiritual growth. Today’s Gospel reading reminds us of the response that God expects from us as we are called to be a part of his mission. Each one has a calling that he/she is supposed to discern and respond to with an open heart. Understanding and embracing this calling may require us to shift our focus from worldly rewards and align ourselves with God’s eternal plan. There are no material benefits promised, and we must learn to care less for these things, prioritizing our spiritual purpose. Ultimately, our journey should be about embracing these opportunities to prepare for eternal life.
PRAYER: Abba Father, help us to leave behind the distractions of this world, and to respond to your calling. Amen.
