Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life
  • Deuteronomy 4:1, 5-9
  • Psalm 147:12-13, 15-16, 19-20
  • Matthew 5:17-19

In Deuteronomy, Moses reminds the people that God’s laws are not burdens but gifts meant to give life. They are meant to be lived, not merely remembered. Obedience is not about rigid rule-keeping; it is about shaping a way of life that reflects wisdom, and closeness to God. When people live according to God’s commands, they become a visible witness to others: their lives speak before their words ever do. Jesus echoes this in the Gospel when he says he has not come to abolish the Law, but to fulfil it. He shifts the focus from external compliance to interior faithfulness. The law is fulfilled when it moves from stone tablets into human hearts. Every small act of faithfulness matters in God’s kingdom. Do our choices reflect God’s values? Faith is not preserved by knowing Scripture alone, but by living it. When God’s word shapes our actions, it becomes credible, attractive, and alive: not just something we believe, but something we embody.

Abba Father, may our lives bear witness to you. Amen.
