Hosanna in the highest
  • Isaiah 50: 4-7
  • Psalm 22:8-9, 17-20, 23-24
  • Philippians 2:6-11
  • Matthew 26:14- 27:66

The Messiah enters Jerusalem triumphantly on a donkey. The crowds shout, “Hosanna to the son of David!” Yet only days later, the same crowd chooses a common criminal over the Messiah. They are persuaded to choose not the light, but darkness. Jesus humbles himself, surrendering to the will of the Father. He suffers death and forgives the sins of the people. By rising from the dead, he conquers death and is exalted above all. In our own life journey, we may encounter people like the crowd that surrounded Jesus. Some may admire us, show affection, or express gratitude, but when things do not go their way or when insecurity creeps in, their attitude may change. They may disgrace or slander us, leaving us wounded and humiliated. How do we respond? Like Jesus, we are to turn to prayer. Filled with God’s love, let us find our worth in God alone. Strengthened by God, let us forgive those who hurt us and continue to serve in surrender.

Abba Father, grant us self control and patience to forgive those who hurt us. Amen.
