O Lord, my God, in you I take refuge
  • Jeremiah 11:18-20
  • Psalm 7:2-3,9-12
  • John 7:40-53

Let us examine our faith: do we place our trust in God, especially during times of confusion and uncertainty? God’s protection surpasses even the most carefully laid human plans. In the first reading, despite the real danger he encounters, Jeremiah does not give in to fear or despair. Instead, he remains steadfast, turning to God and seeking justice. The Gospel presents a scene where the crowd is divided in their opinions about Jesus. Some are open to believing in him, while others refuse to listen, allowing pride and fear to cloud their judgment. Amid this tension, Nicodemus steps forward to advocate for Jesus. By urging that Jesus be given a fair hearing rather than being condemned outright, Nicodemus highlights the vital importance of judging fairly and remaining open to the truth. Rather than rushing to judgments or allowing popular opinion to sway us, we must be willing to seek the truth, even when doing so is unpopular or challenging.

Abba Father, teach us to seek the truth and to treat others with fairness and love. Amen.
