Sometimes we block blessings and healings because of self-condemnation, thinking that we are not worthy to be his children or that God is not pleased with us. The Son of God came into this world to save us from the dark pit we had fallen into. Jesus is the only light that can dispel the gloom and darkness of this world. By quoting from the book of Isaiah, the Gospel writer continues to connect Jesus’ ministry to the Old Testament. John the Baptist paved the way by helping people recognise what was right and wrong and by leading them to repent of their sins. As John’s ministry ended, Jesus began his ministry by opening their hearts to a new world they never imagined: a life of joy and peace in the presence of God. But the doorway to this kingdom is repentance and the decision to follow Jesus and his commandments. As we enter into this relationship with Jesus, loving others and letting go of our selfish nature becomes easier and more joyful.
PRAYER: Abba Father, you are our security and our joy. Amen.
