We need to imitate Christ. It is said that ‘imitation is the highest form of flattery’, and this is especially true in the spiritual life. Our goal is union with God in heaven, and the surest way to that union is by living a Christ-like life. Christ already loves us deeply and longs for a relationship with us, inviting us to know him by loving as he does. Mother Teresa had a profound devotion to Christ on the cross. She interpreted Jesus’ “I thirst,” as his thirst for souls. He longs for each of us to remain in his love, to know him, and to love him. When we imitate Christ’s love, we are drawn into deeper relationship with God. The world promises satisfaction (success, possessions, status) which cannot fulfill us. God knows us intimately: “You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb” (Ps 139:13). He did not create us only for this life but for eternal life with him. Therefore, we are called to live as citizens of heaven, following his commandments so that we may share in his joy.
PRAYER: Abba Father, may we proclaim your marvelous deeds to all the nations. Amen.
