Blessed are the poor in spirit
  • 2 Timothy 4:1-8
  • Psalm 71:8-9,14-17,22
  • Mark 12:38-44

Saint Paul speaks with urgency and conviction, urging Timothy to “proclaim the word…whether convenient or inconvenient.” His words reflect a life poured out in service, one that has “fought the good fight” and remained faithful to the end. This is the model of true discipleship: steadfast, courageous, and rooted in truth. In the Gospel, Jesus contrasts outward religiosity with genuine devotion. He warns against the scribes who seek honor and recognition, while exploiting the vulnerable. The poor widow’s quiet sacrifice reveals the heart God desires: sincere, humble, and trusting. As Saint John Chrysostom teaches, “Not the amount given, but the intention of the giver makes the gift precious.” God sees beyond appearances; he looks into the heart. We are invited today to examine our lives. Do we seek recognition, or do we give ourselves fully to God? May we, like St. Paul, remain faithful, and like the widow,”offer all we have: with humility, and love.

PRAYER: Abba Father, I will hope and praise you for ever more. Amen.
