St. Augustine of Canterbury exemplified humility and courage required to follow God’s call, even in unfamiliar and challenging circumstances. Sent from Rome to England in the late 6th century, he faced uncertainty, cultural differences, and the daunting task of evangelizing a people new to the Christian faith. Yet, his trust in God’s guidance and his willingness to serve, became a beacon of faith that transformed a nation. In the first reading, we are reminded that we were redeemed “with the precious blood of Christ,” called to live as obedient children in holiness and love. The Gospel challenges us to embrace the servant leadership of Christ, who came not to be served but to serve. St. Augustine’s missionary zeal reflects this servant heart, showing that true greatness lies in selfless love for others. May we, inspired by his example, surrender our own ambitions and follow Christ’s path of humble service, trusting that God works through our small acts of obedience and love.
PRAYER: Abba Father, may we partake in your suffering, and one day share in your glory. Amen.
