God’s law will never change. It is not amended to suit each generation. From age to age there will be innovations, and new lifestyles. At times there may be a difference between the teachings of the Church and the laws of a country. Certain acts may be legal in some places. Are we ready to stand for what is right? In our work and daily life it may seem difficult to succeed without unethical practices, yet we are called to remain faithful to God. We have a duty to teach the truth to the next generation: not only by words but also by our example. Jesus warns that if we relax God’s commandments and follow our ways, there will be consequences. What is wrong remains wrong even if many approve it; what is right remains right even if few accept it. In the first reading we see the prophet Elijah standing alone in worship of the God of Israel. Jesus says he”came to fulfill the law. The Holy Spirit will empower us to live according to God’s law.

PRAYER: Abba Father, fill us ever more deeply with your Holy Spirit, that we may live according to your will. Amen.
