Today Jesus gives us two images to explain how our lives should be. He calls us the “salt of the earth.” We are meant to season and preserve the world with peace. Our words and actions should bring peace to our families, workplaces, and communities. Otherwise, we lose our purpose in the Kingdom of God.Jesus also calls us the “light of the world.” To be light, we must bear witness to him and to his message. We can bring Christ’s light into places of despair because he dwells within us. God entrusted the Prophet Elijah with a difficult mission. The king sought to kill him because of the word he proclaimed from the Lord. Yet God assured Elijah of his care. Not only the prophet, but also the widow and her son who helped him experienced God’s goodness. Truly, we cannot outgive God. Our task is to say “yes” to his mission. The Lord will take care of the rest. Wherever we are placed, we are called to be salt and light, bringing God’s”Kingdom to others by carrying Jesus in our hearts.
PRAYER: Abba Father, give us the grace to be aware of your presence in our hearts. Amen.
