“I am the Good Shepherd”
  • Acts 11:1-18
  • Psalm 42:2-3; 43:3-4
  • John 10:11-18

God’s love knows no boundaries, and today’s readings invite us to witness its reach. Peter recounts how the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles. What once seemed impossible: the inclusion of those considered outsiders; becomes a reality as the early Church recognises that God’s mercy is for all. Conversion, repentance, and new life are gifts freely offered to everyone open to the Spirit’s work. In the Gospel, Jesus calls himself the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep. He knows each one personally and seeks not only those already within the fold, but also the “other sheep” who must be gathered. His love is sacrificial, personal, and all-embracing. Saint Gregory the Great reminds us, “The proof of love is in the works.” Jesus’ love is shown fully on the cross, where he gives himself so that all may live. We, too, are called to hear his voice, trust his guidance, and extend mercy and care to others, reflecting the Shepherd’s heart in our daily lives.

Abba Father, as the deer longs for the running waters, so my soul longs for you. Amen.
