“It is I. Do not be afraid.”
  • Acts 6:1-7
  • Psalm 33:1-2,4-5,18-19
  • John 6:16-21

How do we serve others? Do we place our trust in Jesus during difficult moments? How could we continue to grow in faith through every season of life? In the first reading, we see how the early church appointed people to care for widows. Serving those in need is an essential expression of faith. While some attend to daily concerns, the apostles devote themselves to prayer and teaching. This balance highlights the importance of different roles within the mission of the church. As each person embraced their responsibility, the community flourished. In the Gospel, the disciples struggle against strong winds while Jesus is absent. When he approaches them, walking on the water, Jesus reassures them not to be afraid. His presence brings peace and calms their fears. This reading reminds us that even amid life’s storms, Jesus is near. When circumstances feel overwhelming, we can rest in the assurance that his presence brings peace and strength in every challenge.

Abba Father, teach us to serve others with joy and to trust you in times of trial. Amen.
