God’s plan unfolds when we are surrendered to him. Even the most powerful enemy will be defeated because we are children of God. We will have no fear and will always walk under the cloud of his protection. We have been chosen for a mission and we cannot fulfil it by our own efforts. This is evident in the first reading, which shows God’s providence and guidance. We are invited to gaze upon his face, not relying on our own understanding. Early Christians, even when facing death, trusted that God would never abandon them, no matter how terrible the circumstances. The Gospel warns that depending on money for security and happiness gradually leads us away from the Lord. Even great and mighty kings who turned from God to follow human counsel ended in misery and darkness. God alone is our Savior, providing for every need. The world may tempt us with luxuries and an easy-going lifestyle, but these things are temporary and will quickly fade away.
PRAYER: Abba Father, open my eyes to see the truth beyond wealth, power, and prestige. Amen.
