The Sacred Heart: the remedy for a restless world
  • Deuteronomy 7:6-11
  • Psalm 103:1-4,6-8,10
  • 1 John 4:7-16
  • Matthew 11:25-30

In the first reading, Moses reminds the Israelites that God chose them not because they were great, but because they were the smallest of nations. In this we glimpse the nature of the Sacred Heart of Jesus: a heart overflowing with love and faithfulness through generations. In the Gospel we are invited to seek that very heart, the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. We live in an age where social media promises happiness and peace. Yet often we find ourselves more restless, anxious, and burdened than before. Christ offers us a different remedy for life’s burdens: “Come to me,…for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves” (Mt 11:28-29). “The Lord says: Not this or that person, but all who are in anxiety, sorrow, and sin. Come: not that I may call you to account, but that I may take away your sins. Come: not because I seek your honour, but because I desire your salvation. And I, will give you rest” (St. John Chrysostom).

PRAYER: Abba Father, help me to open my heart wide, that I may live in you and you in me. Amen.
