As disciples we are called to give first place to the Lord in our lives above everything. If the light of Christ is to shine, the darkness within us must give way: and this can be painful. We are called to witness to the new life Christ has won for us. In the first reading, the woman recognizes Elisha as a man of God and generously offers him a place in her home. In return, the Lord blesses her with what she had long desired. This reveals the compassion and generosity of God. Like the psalmist we can proclaim: “Forever I will sing of the Lord’s goodness.” Through baptism we are united with Christ in his death and resurrection; death no longer has dominion over us. We have died to sin and now live for God in Christ Jesus. At baptism we receive new life and become temples of the Holy Spirit. Saint John Paul II reminds us that this new life, sustained by the Holy Spirit, is a call to holiness, victory over evil, and a share in the divine life.
PRAYER: Abba Father, may we embrace this new life and may the light of Christ shine in us. Amen.
