Today’s Gospel concludes the Sermon on the Mount and emphasizes authentic discipleship. The Lord Jesus warns that not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter heaven, but only those who sincerely do the Father’s will with full devotion. Obedience to God is the true mark of faith. Even those performing miracles or prophesying in his name will be rejected if they lack a genuine, living, and committed relationship with him. Two foundations stand out. First, hearing Jesus’ words and acting on them builds a sturdy life on a solid foundation, while ignoring them leads to collapse when storms inevitably come. Second, the crowd was amazed because Jesus taught with absolute authority, unlike the scribes of his time. True faith requires transformation, shown in daily actions rather than mere religious words alone. It calls for genuine repentance and a life of faithful obedience, following the Lord in heart, mind, word, and deed.
