The Gospel reading presents a surprising moment. Jesus is told, his mother and relatives are waiting outside. Instead of diminishing family, he expands it: “Whoever does the will of my Father is my brother and sister and mother.” The invitation is astonishing. Through grace, discipleship becomes kinship. The prophet Micah celebrates a God who delights in mercy, who casts sins into the depths of the sea. Forgiveness is what makes this new family possible. The Church is not united primarily by culture, language, nationality, or personality. It is united by shared belonging to Christ. Many people carry loneliness even while surrounded by others. Today’s Gospel reading reminds believers that they are not spiritual outsiders. In Christ there is a home. There is a place. There is a family formed by faith. And every act of obedience deepens that relationship. The Father does not merely tolerate his children. He welcomes them.
