Lord, it is good that we are here
  • Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14
  • Psalm 97:1-2, 5-6, 9
  • Matthew 17:1-9

Transfiguration refers to an experience of temporary divine radiance or light. The first reading acts as a prophetic foundation for the Transfiguration, revealing the divine nature and glory of Jesus, who receives an eternal kingdom from the Ancient of Days. On the Mount of Transfiguration, Jesus revealed his glory in a way his disciples had never witnessed before. This glory confirmed that Jesus is truly the Son of God. In his glorified form, they also saw a preview of his future glorification and enthronement as King of kings and Lord of lords. For those navigating modern life, the Transfiguration encourages us to reexamine our priorities, shifting our focus from worldly anxieties to spiritual growth. We are called to look beyond temporary circumstances and recognize God’s presence and action in the world. Let us practice seeking God’s glory in ordinary moments: in nature, in our neighbors, and in acts of kindness; allowing his presence to transform the way we see our daily lives.

PRAYER: Lord, transform us into the likeness of your Son, whose radiant splendor was manifest in his glorious Transfiguration. Amen.
