Today’s readings sound like a lament. Jeremiah weeps over suffering and devastation. The Psalm cries out for mercy. Even the Gospel speaks about final judgment and the separation of good from evil. Yet beneath the sorrow lies hope. Biblical lament is different from despair. Despair says nothing can change. Lament brings pain before God because it still believes God listens. The prophet refuses to hide grief. The Psalm refuses to hide need. The Gospel refuses to hide truth. Authentic faith includes all three. Many people think spirituality requires constant positivity. Scripture disagrees. The saints often prayed through tears, confusion, and unanswered questions. God is not threatened by honest sorrow. Let us bring our burdens to him without disguise. Prayer does not always remove suffering immediately. Sometimes it transforms suffering into trust. And trust allows light to enter even the darkest places.
PRAYER: For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us. Amen.
