We are called to listen to God and respond with obedience. Though his message may sometimes contain sorrow, warning, or lamentation, it ultimately brings life and nourishment. The first reading describes God’s word as tasting like “sweet honey”. The Psalm echoes this theme through a deep love for God’s law. It reminds us that his teachings bring joy, and guidance. Once again, God’s word is compared to something sweet and life-giving, revealing its power to sustain and strengthen the soul. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that true greatness comes through humility. By placing a child before the disciples, he emphasises the importance of becoming trusting, and humble like a child. Jesus also highlights the value of the “little ones,” reminding us that every person is precious in his eyes. The parable of the lost sheep reveals God’s loving heart, for he seeks out each person with care and joy. No one is insignificant or forgotten by God, and his desire is to bring his children safely home.
