Religion without conversion becomes mere noise. That is the uncomfortable message of Isaiah today. The people continue sacrifices, prayers, and ceremonies, yet God says their hands are stained because justice has been neglected. Worship cannot be separated from the way we treat others. The Gospel continues this challenge. Jesus speaks of division, not because he desires conflict, but because truth demands decision. Following Christ eventually forces priorities into the open. Many want a version of Christianity that inspires without disturbing. Jesus does not offer compromise. The saints understood this clearly. St John Chrysostom wrote: “The road to heaven is rough and narrow.” Yet God walks it with us. Today’s readings point out that outward religion alone cannot transform the soul. The Lord desires mercy, justice, honesty, and courage. Faith becomes authentic when prayer reaches beyond the church door and reshapes the way we live, forgive, and serve.
PRAYER: Abba Father, help me to take up the cross and follow you. Amen.
