God has loved us with a love like himself: “from everlasting to everlasting.” God’s love is eternal, unconditional, and self-initiated, not dependent on our merit or response. It draws us gently through mercy and grace, offering a security that surpasses all human affection and remains steadfast in every circumstance. Jeremiah 31 is a powerful message of hope and restoration, often called the “Book of Consolation.” It promises that God will restore his people after exile. The Israelites who survived the devastation of war experienced God’s grace and protection in exile. Despite living in a desolate and hopeless place, God found them and assured them of his providential rest, sustenance, and comfort. Let us remind ourselves that we are loved and never alone. If we are facing challenges, feeling weak, or tempted to give up, let us turn to the Lord and spend time with him. Let him remind us once again how much he loves us, and may his word and grace strengthen us.
