Today is the feast of Saint Bartholomew, also known as Nathanael, as many scholars and Church tradition identify Bartholomew with Nathanael. Jesus described Nathanael as “a true Israelite in whom there is no deceit: and what an amazing way to be known. Yesterday we read Peter’s proclamation of Jesus as the Son of God. Today we see Nathanael’s proclamation of Christ as the Son of God and King of Israel. Each of us has been privileged to witness signs and wonders: through healings and deliverances we have experienced in our own lives or witnessed in others. Yet often, when crisis strikes, our faith weakens. We begin to doubt who God truly is and what he can do for us in our present situation. Too often, we forget what he has done for us in the past and what he can do again and again. Jesus told Nathanael, “You will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending”. Let us wait with expectant hope to see open heavens.

PRAYER: Abba Father, help us to believe and to envision heaven opened over our lives and ministries. Amen.
