Who is Jesus to us? To me, Jesus is Lord over my life: the Saviour who continues to save me from the perils of this world. He is the Messiah, the Anointed One, who empowers me. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. In him is everything, and in him all things are held together. How wise it is, then, to hold on to Jesus rather than to this world, which is fleeting and uncertain. He is the author of my life and of my faith. So when I have doubts or little strength to go on, I can turn to him, and he renews me. He is the lover of my soul. Every human love pales in comparison and is only a reflection of this love. His love is unparalleled and completes me, so I need not search elsewhere to be satisfied. And when my tank is empty, and I am tempted by self-pity or the need for human validation and recognition, he beckons me to come and let him love me. For we cannot truly love others unless we allow Jesus to love us, over and over again. Is he the lover of your soul?
