Today’s readings are a reminder for us to stay vigilant and discerning. In the First Reading, St. Paul cautions the Thessalonians not to be misled by false claims, especially those suggesting that the end of the world has already come. St. Paul’s words urge us to be discerning about what we hear and who we follow, particularly in matters of faith. We encounter countless distractions and voices that may pull us away from the truth. Trends and popular ideas often distort the heart of Christ’s teaching. Paul’s advice is clear: hold firmly to the truths we have received, even when others are confused or uncertain. Reading scripture and the teachings of the Church helps us stay grounded and resist falsehoods. In the Gospel, Jesus confronts the Pharisees for their hypocrisy. True faith is not about appearances but about the condition of the heart. Jesus challenges us to align our inner lives with our outward actions, so that our faith is sincere and our lives truly honor God.
