In today’s Gospel, Simon Peter’s mother-in-law is healed by Jesus, and her immediate response is simple yet profound: she rises and begins to serve. This reveals an essential truth of the Christian life: grace is not given merely for our comfort but for transformation that leads to service. When Jesus touches our lives, we should express our love through action. This call is echoed in the first reading, where St. Paul addresses believers who had become divided and immature. Instead of growing in unity, they formed factions around leaders such as Paul and Apollos. Paul reminds them that each person has a different role in God’s plan. The problem was not diversity of gifts but division rooted in pride and misplaced loyalty. Spiritual maturity calls us beyond envy and rivalry into humility and unity. Are we seeking God’s kingdom or our own? To love Christ is to love his Church. A life transformed by Christ serves, grows, and fosters unity, becoming a living witness to his grace.
