The first Adam belonged to the natural order and needed God’s grace to be transformed. The last Adam, Christ, the spiritual man, became like the grain of wheat that died and was buried so that new life might emerge. Through him, the natural is elevated to the supernatural. We need to recognize the difference between the natural and the supernatural life. In every experience of crushing, suffering, failure, or loss, there is a form of dying that can lead us to greater spiritual growth. Our weakest areas must be surrendered to God so that his grace may flourish within us. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that the seed falling on good soil produces a hundredfold harvest. If we remain in our old, immature ways, we cannot grow into mature Christians or bear abundant fruit. By encountering Christ in our daily lives and being strengthened by his Word, we are transformed. This new life is the gift of the Paschal Mystery. We are called to live as people of the Resurrection, sharing in Christ’s victory.
