The Gospel unfolds around a dinner table. A woman known for her sins approaches Jesus. Her actions speak more eloquently than words. She washes his feet with her tears, dries them with her hair, and anoints them with perfume. Simon the Pharisee observes the scene through the lens of judgment. Jesus sees something entirely different. He sees a heart transformed by repentance and overflowing with gratitude. The Lord’s parable of the two debtors reveals a profound spiritual truth. Those who recognize how much they have been forgiven often love more deeply because they understand the greatness of God’s mercy. St Paul expresses a similar conviction in today’s first reading. Reflecting on his own past, he acknowledges that everything he has become is the result of God’s grace. The Christian life begins not with human achievement but with divine mercy. The more we appreciate that gift, the more our lives become a response of love, and gratitude.
