Rejoice because your names are written in heaven
  • Job 42:1-3, 5-6, 12-17
  • Psalm 119:66,71,75,91,125,130
  • Luke 10:17-24

In the Gospel, Jesus redirects His disciples away from measuring themselves by success. Though their mission bore fruit, He offers them a deeper truth: “Rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” Jesus reveals that our truest identity is received, not earned. We are loved before we achieve anything. The disciples’ joy was meant to flow not from what they did for God, but from being drawn into the loving relationship Christ shares with the Father. This is the heart of the Gospel. Job deepens this message. His faith was not built on blessings, rewards or easy answers. Even when suffering stripped everything away, he believed that God was still sovereign, good and near. The same is true for us. Our worth is rooted in God’s love, not visible success. Faith is sustained not by understanding everything, but by trusting the One who holds us. True joy comes from God. It may come as peace in suffering, strength to endure, the assurance of being loved and, ultimately, the promise of eternal life.

PRAYER: Abba Father, help me to see that true joy comes from belonging to you. Amen.
