Intercession of the Saints
  • Ephesians 2:19-22
  • Psalm 19:2-5
  • Luke 6:12-16

The apostles Simon and Jude were passionate about their faith. Although little is mentioned about these two apostles in the New Testament, they were among the twelve apostles that Jesus selected. Jesus gave his apostles the authority to preach the good news, drive out evil spirits and heal the sick. As witnesses to his teaching, miracles, and resurrection, they were tasked with spreading his message and establishing the early Christian church. The Catholic church honours saints, because they are seen as role models, as they overcame many challenges through their faith. They are our spiritual guides and intercessors as we face struggles. Just as we might ask a friend or family member to pray for us during a difficult time, we can pray to the saints to intercede on our behalf. Honouring the saints does not diminish or hinder our intimacy with God. The saints act as a bridge to draw us closer to God. So let us ask them to intercede for us.

PRAYER: Abba Father, we give you all the glory as we celebrate the remarkable things you have done in our lives. Amen.
